Agent 365

Agent 365 is Microsoft’s new platform for managing AI agents across Microsoft 365 and connected services. Organizations gain a single place to observe agent activity, govern access, and apply consistent security policies.

Many organizations underestimate the number of agents running in daily workflows. There are 6.2x as many agents in use than any IT department knows about. Agent 365 helps uncover the complete agent landscape and brings structure to environments where automation has grown organically and quickly.

Agent 365 provides an inventory of every agent registered or active within the organization. The inventory includes Entra ID agents, Copilot Studio agents, third party agents, and unregistered shadow agents.

For example, a finance department may run an agent that organizes invoices in Outlook while a product management group deploys an agent that updates SharePoint documents.

Agent 365 brings visibility to all these agents and helps administrators understand how each agent contributes to daily operations.

Each agent receives an Entra Agent ID that supports authentication and precise permission assignments. Administrators gain the ability to limit access to the specific data, tools, and systems an agent requires.

For example, a logistics agent that updates a shared Excel file and communicates through a dedicated Teams channel can be restricted to those systems only. This narrowing of access helps prevent unintended interaction with unrelated information.

Lifecycle management is also centralized. Administrators can assign ownership, deploy updates, and retire legacy agents.

Agent 365 includes dashboards, alerts, and real time run monitoring features that help teams understand how agents perform at scale.

For example, a customer service agent that compiles feedback summaries may begin to produce incomplete results. The observability tools highlight performance issues and allow teams to intervene before the workflow is disrupted.

Visualization features map connections between agents, employees, and data sources. This ensures that administrators see how automation flows across the organization.

Agent 365 extends Microsoft Defender, Purview, and Entra protections to agent identities. Administrators can apply conditional access, enforce least privilege, and examine detailed audit logs to understand agent activity.

Purview integrations help prevent oversharing of sensitive information created or used by agents.

For example, if a marketing agent attempts to access files outside its approved SharePoint site, conditional access policies and audit logs provide immediate insight.

Agent 365 serves as the governance layer for agents running inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, along with custom agents created in Copilot Studio.
